ROALD DAHL SHORT STORIES MAN FROM THE SOUTH HOW TO
The old lady is teaching him how to cook and many years later, Lexington became a talented cook. In Aunt Glosspan’s home, he never eats meat. And so the baby Lexington left the city and travelled southwards to live with his Great Aunt Glosspan in the State of Virginia. So when he was no more than twelve years old, little Lexington became an orphan. Lexington’s parents are shot by the police because they are considered to be burglars. Right from the start, the title is just intriguing. So much that I read it twice, even listened to the audio version on line so I could really enjoy the details and see how Mr Boggis is succeeding in his aims.

“The show wasn’t large, and generally he didn’t do a lot of business, but because he always bought cheap, very cheap and sold at very, very high prices, he managed to make quite a good profit every year.” Then on a particular Sunday, something incredible will happen to him in a dirty farm building in the middle of the countryside ? He is a dealer in antique furniture, with his own shop. He’s only pretending to be a reverend and also the President of the Society for the preservation od Rare Furniture. But in that story, the vicar is not representing the Church of England. There are some warning signs that Billy is in a dangerous situation, but he seems to ignore them even if the old lady appeared to be slightly crazy.Ī vicar is an ecclesiastical agent. That was one brilliant ! Roadl Dahl is gradually building tension. He takes a pen, writes down his name and address. The landlady is offering him a nice cup of tea and a warm welcoming smile. He decides to stay in the guesthouse instead of a pub because it was amazibly cheap. Billy Weaver is a seventeen year old boy and he is visiting this town because his boss at the Head office had told him it was a splendid city. This story is about a landlady of a guesthouse. But the funny part is when we get to understand the meaning of the title. Strange things keep happening though and sometimes I was confused whether the narrator was dreaming or if it was just the reality. This story is about how he feels and the decisions he must make. His plane has been hit and he has been injured. The second story is about a British pilot in the Second World War. It also makes you think about why do people continue on betting even when they lose ? I really enjoyed the first story because it has a nice summer feeling including tension all the way through. In what way these objects might be important to the plot? You’ll see that this story is not only based on that important object but also a Cadillac, a butcher’s knife and a piece of string. People commonly bet on horse racing, football matches or maybe presidential elections but a lighter ? So right from the start, the situation is funny because it’s unusual. The three of them start talking until the old man comes with a strange suggestion: “Shall we not make a little bet on whether your lighter lights ?”. There is a small old man, an English girl and an American sailor. People are having fun in a lovely garden with plenty of chairs around a pool. Roald Dahl is considered to be the master of the unexpected because we always have to wait until the last final pages to discover the terrible twist. In each story, people’s lives are changed in some dramatic way and neither they nor the reader can guess what will happen to them until the end. Roald Dahl's stories continue to make readers shiver today. In this collection of seven short stories, the first one is “Man from the south”. These delightfully disturbing tales have often been filmed and were most recently the inspiration for the West End play, Roald Dahl's Twisted Tales by Jeremy Dyson.
